At PMC, we’ve moved thousands of households over the years and have plenty of experience serving people in the Puget Sound area. We see a lot of different issues that arise when moving – some you may not even be aware of. Here are some tips for expediting your move and minimizing your final moving bill:
1. Seal all boxes and label with specificity
Don’t just mark the boxes with their destination inside the new home – be specific! This can be handy when hunting for those coffee cups on your first morning in your new place, for instance.
2. Do the more manageable chores yourself!
Preparing your home for movers to come in may require more steps than you might consider. For example, disassemble your bed frame and take more manageable items in your car. This can dramatically reduce the time it takes for us to move you out and cut down your bill, leaving us to handle the big items!
3. Put your boxes in one central area
Getting everything you want us to pick up in one centralized location can reduce our time back and forth in the house. Putting them all near the exit point – or even better, the garage – helps us and frees you up in the other rooms of the house.
4. Use uniform boxes
As tempting as it may be to grab freebie boxes from the grocery store, irregularly sized boxes can complicate your move and increase risk for damage. Keeping boxes the same size can keep everything manageable and well organized in the truck, too.
5. Create a checklist and be involved!
You know your stuff better than we do. Having you present and involved in the process can help keep things organized and running smoothly. It also helps if you have a checklist of things you need to do before your move. An old-fashioned plan of attack never hurt anybody.
